For Immediate Release — April 17, 2014
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The inaugural Kentucky Bourbon Affair will close its five-day showcase in style with a special Bourbon brunch and Polo tournament at the scenic Louisville Waterfront Park on the banks of the Ohio River.
“We’re really rolling out the red carpet for this event with award-winning chefs and private tailgating areas,” said Eric Gregory, President of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. “It’s a great experience for both local folks and out-of-town guests to enjoy the best of the Bluegrass.”
This unique event will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Louisville Waterfront Park. Tickets are on sale at www.kybourbonaffair.com/polo-tournament-send-off/
Sponsors include the Original Makers Club, Lexington Polo, Wild Eggs, Heaven Hill Distillery, Jim Beam Distillery, Michter’s Distillery and the Kentucky Distillers’ Association.
“This is such an exciting opportunity to bring the Original Makers Club Polo Series and Dinner Series together to celebrate the closing of what promises to be one of the best weeks to be alive,” said OMC Founder Josh Merideth.
“Wild Eggs is honored to be included in this historical event celebrating Bourbon. It has been so thrilling to see the excitement surrounding the Kentucky Bourbon Affair and the attention it is bringing to Louisville,” said JD Rothberg, President and co-founder of Wild Eggs.
“Bourbon has been an integral part of our region’s culture and we’ve made it a point to showcase it on our menu at Wild Eggs. Who says you can’t have bourbon for breakfast?”
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. as the horses and players begin to warm up.
General admission tickets are $25 each, allowing access to cash bars and the day’s entertainment.
VIP tailgating spots for a carload of guests also are available for $100 per vehicle, which includes a private 10 x 10 tent, chairs, reservation sign and access to open bars and the VIP area.
A five-star VIP Bourbon Brunch will begin at 11 a.m. with diners seated at a 100-foot custom farm table and treated to open bars and culinary delights from Wild Eggs — the best seat for the day’s activities at $100 per ticket.
The first game is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. with Heaven Hill taking on Michter’s, followed by the “Bourbon Divot Stomp” where guests can take to the field, meet the players and ponies, sip Bourbon and stomp divots.
At 1 p.m., Jim Beam will take on the winner of the previous game, with awards and a “Kentucky Champagne” toast and send-off at 1:30 p.m.
“It’s such a pleasure for Lexington Polo to continue our relationship with Original Makers Club by showcasing the sports of kinds at the prestigious Kentucky Bourbon Affair,” said Chet Lott, President of Lexington Polo.
The Kentucky Bourbon Affair is a four-day Bourbon fantasy camp that will be held May 14-18, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes tours and events at the most famous Bourbon distilleries in the world. It’s the only whiskey event created and executed by the distilleries themselves.
This year’s Affair will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Congress declaring Bourbon “America’s only native spirit.” In addition, the KDA has partnered with the Original Makers Club on prestigious opening and closing festivities featuring the unique Bourbon lifestyle.
“We’re less than a month away from this incredible week and the excitement is building,” Gregory said. “These are special, unique events featuring the best Bourbon, food and hospitality the Bluegrass has to offer. It’s definitely going to be an Affair to remember.”
