Bluegrass Distillers 2nd Releases of Blue Corn Bourbon Whiskey April 28th, 2018

April 24, 2018

On Saturday, April 28th, 2018, Bluegrass Distillers™ will release a limited supply at their distillery of the Kentucky Blue Corn Bourbon. The second batch is no more than 260 bottles. Their first batch was released Labor Day weekend, 2017 and sold out in about a month.

To celebrate the release of this long anticipated 2nd batch, Bluegrass Distillers will have live bluegrass music, cocktails, free food and a whole lot of bourbon served all day on Saturday, April 28th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to the high demand, they expect to sell out of the bourbon.

The mash bill for the blue corn bourbon started as an experiment with chemical engineering intern students from the University of Kentucky. Bluegrass Distillers took a chance on the blue corn mash recipe because the raw spirit, coined “blue dog” as opposed to “white dog”, had a subtle taste and floral nose for an un-aged spirit. In 2015, Bluegrass Distillers partnered with Gilkison Farm in Winchester, KY to grow the GMO free blue corn locally. The blue corn bourbon whiskey is a Kentucky Proud product.

Bluegrass Distillers started distilling the first batch of bourbon in 2013 and initially opened to the public with a traditional rye influenced bourbon in November of 2015.  Due to its small size, Bluegrass Distillers is able to experiment and release small batch bourbons and other whiskeys, including rye and a malt whiskey. They joined the Kentucky Distillers Association in 2014 and were added to the Craft Bourbon Trail™ just last year.

Bluegrass Distillers offers tours and tastings Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you want to learn more about Bluegrass Distillers, you can visit their website at bluegrassdistillers.com.
