Casey Jones Distillery Ships Hopkinsville-Christian County’s First Spirits From Online Sales

Distillery offers spirits for sale online with KY ABC adoption of HB 415

Hopkinsville, KY (Date) – Casey Jones Distillery, maker of Hopkinsville’s first bourbon, is proud to announce they are also shipping the first bottle of spirits from online sales.     

Monday, December 14, 2020, the Kentucky state Licensing & Occupations Committee approved the shipping regulations for HB 415. This allows Kentucky distilleries to obtain license for shipping bottled spirits. 

With the license in hand, on 12/15/2020 Casey Jones Distillery’s online store was open for DTC sales. Within a short time, several bottles were sold, prepared for shipment, and sent to buyer by UPS. The Kentucky General Assembly passed House Bill 415 in March 2020 and it became law on July 15, 2020. Regulations creating the framework for the Direct Shipper License were given final approval on December 14, 2020 and the Kentucky Department of Alcohol Beverage Control immediately began issuing Direct Shipper licenses to alcohol producer applicants – opening the door for producer shipping to reciprocal states.   HB 415 streamlines direct-to-consumer shipping by alcohol producers, significantly improving and largely supplanting Kentucky’s original DTC shipping laws created by HB 400 in 2018 that required an “in-person” transaction at a distillery. That requirement is no longer necessary. Currently, Casey Jones Distillery can ship to wet districts in KY, Alaska and Washington DC customers. The next step, with more licensing, they will be able to ship to Arizona, Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota & Rhode Island. This is the start, as work is being done for shipping into other states.  They use specific online sales software that insures compliance for selling and shipping spirits, like the Adult Required Signature that ensures that the recipient is at least 21 years of age or above.
