Four Roses honored among ‘Best Whiskies in the World’
Four Roses Small Batch named best bourbon under 7 years of age
LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (April 25, 2012) — Four Roses Distillery again was named among the top spirits at the annual World Whiskies Awards, but this time it was Four Roses Small Batch taking the honors.
Four Roses Small Batch, a marriage of four of the ten unique recipes produced by the distillery, was named “Best American Whiskey: Bourbon Seven Years and Under.” The awards will be featured in Whisky magazine’s July issue, which is distributed globally.
“Four Roses Small Batch is a marriage of four of our recipes known for their spicy flavor characteristics and fruity aromas — OBSK, OBSO, OESK and OESO,” said Jim Rutledge, Four Roses Master Distiller. “At 90 proof, this bourbon is excellent on the rocks and also wonderful for mixing cocktails.”
Four Roses Small Batch brought home the award following a three-round blind tasting competition of more than 300 whiskies from around the world. The competition was chaired by Whisky Magazine Editor, Rob Allanson, and included judges drawn from the best drinks journalists and retailers across the world.
Four Roses is the only bourbon distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mashbills to produce 10 distinct bourbon recipes. The four recipes used to create Small Batch produce a nose that is spicy, rich, mellow and fruity with hints of sweet oak and caramel; a creamy, well-balanced palate, rich and spicy, offering flavors of ripe red berries; along with a soft, smooth and pleasantly long finish.
