SAFE RIDE KY COALITION OFFERS $20 LYFT DISCOUNTS TO PREVENT IMPAIRED DRIVING

FRANKFORT, Ky – This holiday season, Kentuckians can claim $20 in safe ride discounts thanks to Safe Ride KY, a state-wide coalition led by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association.

Users can enter promo code SLEIGHRIDEKY into the Lyft mobile application between December 21, 2018 and January 1, 2019 to receive two $10 ride discounts – wherever Lyft is available in Kentucky, while supplies last.

The campaign – titled “This one’s on us” and produced by Red7e in Louisville – is promoted to consumers of legal drinking age online and in bars, liquor stores and other retail environments where beverage alcohol is sold.

Safe Ride KY and its coalition partners have removed over 5,000 potentially impaired drivers from Kentucky roadways since launching the campaign in December 2017.

“We like to say that Bourbon brings people together,” KDA President Eric Gregory remarked. “We’re proud to help keep holiday celebrations safe by partnering with Lyft, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, and the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Kentucky to offer Kentuckians’ sober rides.”

Kentucky State Police report that 23 drunk driving deaths occurred during Christmas and New Years in the last five years, while holidays like Labor Day (17), Independence Day (17), and Thanksgiving (10) saw Kentucky families lose loved ones to drunk driving, as well.

“Drunk driving tragedies like these are 100% preventable,” said Jason Siwula, Executive Director of the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS). “That’s why we partner with Safe Ride KY to complement our Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over efforts and tell individuals to plan ahead for safe rides.”

Safe Ride KY is also reminding the community that safe rides are just one part of responsible consumption.

The group is encouraging individuals to stay hydrated, consume in moderation, and include everyone by serving crafted non-alcoholic cocktails at holiday celebrations.
