Limestone Branch Distillery’s Moonpie Moonshine Wins “World’s Best’s Liqueur” Award

Only one year after launch, the 7^th Generation distillers Steve and Paul Beam won the award for the sweet product that honors the heritage of their family and the iconic Southern brand.

Lebanon, KY…(March 19, 2015)…MoonPie Moonshine, a product of Limestone Branch Distillery, has won the award for “World’s Best Liqueur” after a blind taste test from the 2015 World Liqueur Awards. Judges noted the Chocolate MoonPie Moonshine for its rich, yet smooth flavor, the remarkable resemblance to the iconic MoonPie, and the noticeable high quality of ingredients, including Dutch chocolate and Madagascar Vanilla.

“When we set out making MoonPie Moonshine, we didn’t do it to win awards. We did it to honor the heritage of our family and an iconic Southern brand and to put a smile on each of your faces from the very first sip,” said Steve Beam, owner and master distiller at Limestone Branch Distillery. “We’re honored by the award and look forward to the momentum this will bring our craft distillery.”

MoonPie Moonshine was officially launched by Limestone Branch Distillery during the Mardi Gras celebration in Mobile, Alabama, and was created in close collaboration with MoonPie, even using the official flavor profile of MoonPies from the Mother Murphy’s flavor scientists. There are currently three flavors of MoonPie Moonshine- Chocolate, Vanilla, and Banana. It has posted strong sales due to its smooth taste (50 or 53 proof depending on the flavor), appeal to consumers, and its ability to be used in a wide variety of cocktails. “We were really excited to hear of this honor for Limestone Branch Distillery. They have created a delicious product that captures the classic taste of a MoonPie that helps celebrate the Southern, working class heritage shared between our brand and their family’s legacy in distilling,” commented Tory Johnston, Vice-President of Marketing at Chattanooga Bakery.

Carrying on a rich history as 7^th generation distillers, Steve and Paul Beam held the official ribbon cutting for Limestone Branch Distillery in February 2012. Limestone Branch Distillery recently announce a sale of 50% equity stake for Luxco, Inc., a supplier and producer of wine, spirits, and alcohol. The distillery plans continued growth, including the upcoming release of Yellowstone Bourbon, which was originally produced by the Beam Family ancestors in 1872.
