The USBG Lux Row Distillers Cocktail Competition Names Louisville Semifinalist Winner

May 30, 2019

Mixologist Jake Smith advances to the finals at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and will compete for the grand prize

(Louisville, KY) May 30 – The USBG Lux Row Distillers cocktail competition has named its Louisville semifinalist. A four-person judging panel named Jake Smith, a mixologist at Wildflower, the winner with his cocktail “Kentiki Masala.”

Along with the trophy for winning this leg of the competition, Smith receives an all-expense paid trip to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in September to compete against other finalists for the Grand Prize.

Smith’s Kentiki Masala recipe:

1.5 oz pineapple juice

1 oz simple syrup

2 oz Rebel Yell bourbon

0.5 oz lime juice

Pinch of garam masala

2 oz heavy cream

Pineapple leaves

Combine pineapple juice, simple syrup, lime juice, Rebel Yell Bourbon, and pinch of garam masala in shaker tin. Shake and strain into rocks glass with crushed ice. In separate tin, add 2 oz of heavy cream and shake. Layer cream on top. Garnish with two pineapple leaves and a sprinkle of garam masala.

At the Louisville semifinal event, which was held at The Levee, the audience crowned Michael Railey, from Hell or Highwater and his cocktail, Kentucky Pickins, as the crowd-favorite winner. The USBG Lux Row Distillers “Bourbon Battle” is organized by the United States Bartenders’ Guild and sponsored by Lux Row Distillers. This is the competition’s inaugural year.
