Michter’s Distillery Joins Kentucky Distillers’ Association

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Michter’s Distillery today announced that it has joined the historic ranks of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, the Commonwealth’s foremost voice on Bourbon and distilled spirits for more than 130 years.

“We are truly impressed with the investment Michter’s is making in Kentucky, especially their new facility in Shively and innovative plans for downtown Louisville,” said Rick Robinson, Chairman of the KDA Board of Directors and Plant Manager at Wild Turkey in Lawrenceburg.

“They’re a well-established company with a venerable brand and visionary leadership. We are excited that they chose the Bluegrass as their home, and we proudly welcome them to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association.”

For generations, Michter’s was associated with the historic Shenk’s Distillery, founded in 1753 in Pennsylvania. After a bankruptcy in 1989, the brand was resurrected in the 1990s.

Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco said the company was looking to restart the flagship brand when an adviser mentioned Kentucky. “If you really want to be serious about the whiskey business, Kentucky is the place to be,” Magliocco said.

Michter’s is finalizing construction on a $10.9 million distilling and bottling facility in Shively,
and is working diligently to restore the distinctive Fort Nelson building into a distilling and
tourism center along Louisville’s famed “Whiskey Row.”

The vision is all part of a “cost-be-damned” approach to crafting great whiskey, Magliocco said. Michter’s production includes single barrel ryes, very small batch bourbons, single barrel bourbon and unblended American whiskey.

“Our goal has always been to make highest quality, world-class whiskey in the United States,” he said. “Kentucky, with its rich history of great distilleries, is the perfect place to pursue that goal.

“The KDA and its members have welcomed us with open arms, and it’s an honor to be part of such a legendary group and a timeless industry. We look forward to working with the KDA and its famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail® tour on a long and successful partnership.”

25,000 barrels of Kentucky distilled beverage spirits.

KDA President Eric Gregory applauded Michter’s on its diligence and investment. “The Michter’s team isn’t just building a distillery — they’re putting down significant roots in Kentucky,” he said. “Just look at the lengths they’re going to restore the Fort Nelson building.

This is more than an investment to them. They’re part of the family and this is their home. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the work that Michter’s and our members are doing to help move our signature industry forward and keep Kentucky the one, true and authentic home for Bourbon,” Gregory said.
